First off, thank you all for receiving my application to the Guild of Master Sweeps positively. My previous membership in a different professional body produced no real, lasting, or progressive benefits, and it cost a fortune. So, I up and left, 'as you do'. Since then I have worked alone without mutual support from fellow sweeps for about 20 years.

As time has passed I have become increasingly aware of the importance of being a member of a proper professional body, which is not only recognized by National Government but also by the EU. Since the Guild of Master sweeps is a fully professional body in the UK recognized by both the UK Government, and the EU Federation ESCHFOE, it became glaringly obvious that if I didn't join it I was going to be left out in the cold, I like the genuine intent to raise the professional standard of work collectively to increase the scope of work done, to improve the education facilities for all members, to disseminate information and new technologies throughout the membership.

I am pleased that I have become a member, Thank you for accepting me. (I thought, if you don't try, you don't know). So, I rang 'Bob Russell' (the chairman) on 01953 451 322. The phone call cost 10p. 'Big deal'. The courtesy I received was second to none; the rest as they say is history.

I joined the guild in July 2006, as a professional chimney sweep. Certificate pads, van logos and my very own certificate which is now framed arrived within two weeks. Right from the start I felt like I was part of a very professional organization with one hundred percent support if ever I needed it. We recently had our AGM in Nottingham with most members attending, A fantastic weekend meeting fellow sweeps from all over the country and the camaraderie was great, and so was the beer. We also saw a video of power sweeping taking chimney sweeping in to the twenty first century WOW.
